A NURSING home is celebrating after it was rated the best in Plymouth by official inspectors.

St James's Lodge in Stoke was given an overall three-star rating by the Commission for Social Care Inspection.

It was given the top rating in 20 out of 28 categories.

The next best home in Plymouth achieved a top rating in nine categories, said administrator Sharon Thomas.

The home employs 38 staff and looks after up to 38 residents.

St James's Lodge has improved its service since it was last inspected in 2006.

Manager Fiona Miller said: "This is the first time we've been inspected under the new star rating. We are very pleased with the outcome.

"The staff here give 110 per cent to every patient who comes through the door. Nothing is too much trouble for them."

The home cares for people with a physical disability, and its residents range in age from 40 upwards. Some patients come from St Luke's Hospice.
